Our client, Distillerie des 3 Lacs, was able to stand out at the annual event
“PAC Global Leadership Awards 2020”. At this event, their gin won the prestigious “Best In Class New Brand, Luxury” award. Our team worked in harmony with the Pigeon agency to create the uncreatable: a label with a distinguished finish, and tailor-made for a Quebec distillery.
In order to avoid over-packaging, our team selected a raw material to optimize the digital printing method considering the press used. In order to optimize production efficiency, the idea of putting four labels on one repeat was great! So, for the same repeat and the same width, we could produce the labels for two bottles instead of just one!
Regarding the use of recycled materials, our material is a textured white that is made from 30% post-consumer fiber. This means that this material is made from paper that has already been used by the end consumer and that has been collected for recycling.
The labels were printed on HP digital presses. The inks of these presses are oil-based, contain no heavy metals and respect the highest international environmental standards. We also used a water-based matt varnish instead of an UV varnish.
When it came to printing, the challenges were significant. First, there was the notion of including several labels on the same repeat in order to optimize the material used. In addition, we had to take into account that we had to do a first press run for 4 process printing on the textured material. Then, another pass on the press was done to delaminate the material, print on the glue in perfect reference mark and re-laminate. Finally, on a third press run, we applied the matt water-based varnish, applied the hot foil and executed the cut in perfect reference.
During production, we encountered a major challenge: we had to apply the label on the bottle in the perfect place. We had to consider that the container was custom designed and that a cavity was molded to insert the label. This additional challenge was taken up proudly!
Bottles of gin, Distillerie les 3 Lacs
To create a WOW effect on the labels, we used HP digital presses, as well as the Galaxie by SMAG, for their impressive production quality. With these presses, the result is extraordinary! The register is always aligned, the print quality is at 175 lpi, the printing is fast, and no polymer plates are required.
Thanks to the means used to produce this label, consumers can recycle their bottles easily. This truly is a label produced from recycled material and designed in an optimized way. Other labels can also be greener and still look good!
