Flexographic Pressman

Specializing in the printing of labels for the food, pharmaceutical and industrial markets and committed to providing customized solutions to our customers, Imprimerie Ste-Julie offers a state of the art environment and is growing…so we need new flexographic pressmen, day and evening shifts, to support our existing team.

LOCATION: Ste-Julie

JOB: Permanent

SCHEDULE: Flexibility possible

40 hours per week
Evening, starts at 2pm.

  • 5 days/week : 2pm to 10:30pm;
  • 4 days of 10am : 2pm to 12:30pm, Monday to Thursday

YOUR ROLE

Working under the responsibility of the flexography supervisor, the pressman receives orders from customers and ensures that the right raw materials are taken for production, from the choice of paper to the inks and varnishes to be used and sets all the parameters required for the production of the labels. He/she regularly checks the quality of the prints and the quantities of inks (etc.) and makes the required programming changes as needed, all in order to meet the quality and quantity standards established on the production specifications that have been accepted and to maintain maximum profitability for the company.

In the interest of versatility and team spirit, he/she may be called upon to perform cleaning tasks on the press or to wash ink fountains, and to collaborate with other teams or departments in order to raise or resolve problems that could impact quality, quantity, delivery times or other issues, all with the goal of maintaining the satisfaction of the end customer.

 

DESCRIPTION OF YOUR IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR AND TEAM

You will report directly to our Flexography Supervisor, Martin. Martin is an energetic type who likes to deliver results and doesn’t mind pitching in to help his team, but appreciates those who show initiative and resourcefulness and are opened to learning. In short: he is a wealth of experience and is open to showing it, he needs people with drive and who are opened to learning!

The entire flexography team consists of about 6 people, 3 of whom work directly at HP Presses, for which we are looking to expand the team. Jacques has been with us for over 30 years, he is a wealth of experience with a generally cheerful personality and a focus on product quality! Vanessa was promoted to this position this year, after having demonstrated great skills in her previous position. And Dave joined our team this year, after having acquired a great deal of previous experience in graphic design and presses. In short: a team with diverse skills, and that’s what makes it strong!

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Understand the work order to determine the specifications of the work to be performed;
  • Ensure that the work order, production bag and sample provided match;
  • Run the press at idle speed to check samples for ink coverage, alignment and registration (makeready);
  • Obtain approval of the samples obtained from his/her immediate supervisor;
  • Check printing at normal speed to ensure quality standards are met and make adjustments if necessary
  • Prepare the press by setting up the paper and tools needed to do the job and make the necessary adjustments
  • Fill the ink fountain and make the necessary adjustments to obtain the desired color and viscosity;
  • Produce labels that may include 7 to 8 colors, with a turn bar, including the complexity of maintaining quality and the speed with which they must be produced
  • To produce labels of great complexity with a more complex assembly and adjustments;
  • Dismantle the press once the work is completed and clean the tools used;
  • Ensure the maintenance of the press in collaboration with the in-house mechanic;
  • Carry out NSF sanitation related duties as they pertain to your position

 

REQUIRED SKILLS 
  • D.E.S. / AEC or DEC in graphic design, printing… or any other combination of relevant education and experience;
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in printing and flexography, including 2+ years in a comparable role;
  • Fluent in French, written and oral
